Padron Family Reserve 46

Our tasting notes on
The Padron 46 cigar

Handsomely boxed the Padron No.46 presents an evenly colored chocolate brown wrapper with a barnyard and pepper aroma. It is a very well made cigar and packed with a soft box press.
The Padron Family Reserve 46 started off with a full blast of pepper, spice and roasted espresso beans. After the ¼ inch mark it beautifully developed into a rich full bodied full flavored smoke with a nice balance of strength, flavor and complexity. The Padron 46 performed like a champ with full rich notes of spice, dark chocolate, white pepper and espresso beans. It continued to draw very well producing a cornucopias amount of smoke with an even burn and a solid white ash that didn’t want to fall. This superb cigar remained consistent through the half way point and picked up steam on the finish with flavors intact. The finish was very smooth, rich and complex. The Padron family has done it once again staying true to their legacy of impeccable construction, flavor and consistency. We highly recommend this cigar to all smokers who enjoy a full, rich cigar with loads of complexity.

New! Berger Argenti Cigars

I had heard quite a bit about the Berger Argenti cigars and was interested in bringing it in to our shop. After speaking with Joey Oliva, the National Sales Manager for this intriguing new concept in cigars, I was more convinced than ever that our customers would enjoy this smoke. The moment it arrived we opened a box and Manny, a long time friend/customer saw them and had one out of the box and lit! I was next to light one up and was very impressed with the quality, flavor, burn and aroma this first of a kind entubar rolled cigar has to offer.

Kristoff Cigar Event

We had such a great time with Glenn Case, owner and designer/creator of the Kristoff Cigar line, here this past Friday. Our beautiful Florida weather was on it's best behavior with a slight cooling of temps, clear as a bell blue skies, the perfect cigar smoking type! Glenn is one of the most knowledgeable and personable cigar "Celebrities" and really enjoyed some interesting conversations with a large turnout of cigar lovers.

We're doing a lot of twittering lately and Clint from Revolution Cigars tweeted to say hi to Glenn. Here's Glenn's reply! As Clint said it was "Priceless". :)

Thanks for the visit Glenn. Hope to see you again soon!

Illusione ~MJ12~

What can you say about a great cigar like the Illusione MJ!12? Let's see!

Illusione
MJ12
Where to start with this cigar, first of all it’s a monster.  Not as big as big gets but much bigger than I usually smoke, I tend to gravitate to 50 ring gauge and smaller.  I would have to say my favorite sizes are robustos, coronas, and lanceros but it is good to venture outside of my normal routine and smoke something different.  That being said this big boy looks delicious with it's dark brown silky wrapper and medium veins, its not terribly oily but has a glow to it.

As far as flavor and taste goes I got a metric ton of spice for the first ¼ inch, it kinda felt like horseradish, you know how it gets your nose wide open but the tingle doesn’t last for long.  After that initial hit in the nose the spice mellows into a beautiful citrus and is complimented by a raw nutty and powdered cocoa flavor.  The next taste sensation I get is a weird one but it works very well, pencil shavings, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils.  Like I said I don’t know why it works but it does so seamlessly.  Something else I get that is very hard for me to pick out is tea, I get it more on the palate than the nose but I'm not sure what type of tea it is.  The MJ12 finishes out with a mellow citrus spice, an under tone of earth and leather, and a very bright punch of flavor at the tail end of the retro hale.  I can't put my finger on the last flavor but it reminds me of something vegetal for what its worth.
The MJ12 is a BIG cigar both in flavor and strength.  It is also BIG on value, nice balance between flavor, body, strength, and it smoke with out issue for 2 hours.  This was a perfect companion as I watched the World Cup Celebration and I am sad to see it go up in smoke but it did so in a delectable whirlwind of flavors.  Thank you Dion, thank you.

Jaime Garcia, the son of the Master Blender Pepin Garcia, has created another fantastic new cigar! He's named it "Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Cigars" and we're really excited about it! It's our featured cigar of the week here at Bonita Smoke Shop.
A delicious medium to full bodied cigar which is a magnificent blend of Nicaraguan binder and filler with a  mouth watering Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.

"Sushi, The Cigars and The Blues" party!

This was our first "After Hours" event at Bonita Smoke Shop and we had such a great time! I couldn't have done it alone and have a few to say a sincere "Thank You" to.

It was an evening featuring all General Cigar products. Grace Cabezas, who is one outstanding sales representative, helped us in putting together this event. Your ideas and advice were instrumental (no pun intended but it still sounds good) in putting this fun evening of food, music and cigars was much appreciated Grace!

The air was scented with the tantalizing aromas of cigars such as Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, Macanudo, (including the Macanudo 1968 blend),Partagas and the new La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Tabaqueros Cigars

We had the honor of Poppa E and his Blues Band entertain us with a wide range of classic blues songs. The strain of his guitar and harmonica along with a bass player made a SW Florida sunset even more magical. To say his voice touched a part of us is putting it mildly. You could "feel" the emotion in the lyrics he sang. Thank you Poppa E. You helped make our evening extra special.

The sushi boats kept arriving and I had to laugh. It was as if the Seventh Fleet had docked. Everyone dug in! For some it was their first venture into the world of sushi and I applaud their courage. I remember the first time I tried it and could relate.

Chopsticks flashed, music was sung, wine was sipped and cigar were smoked!

All in all a wonderful evening. Many thanks to all who attended. Let's do it again soon!

PS. Come to think of it. The "Punch Cigar Guy" is due for a birthday....very soon! It may be time to celebrate that!

La Aurora 107 Cigars

We're thrilled to have a seasoned and knowledgeable (not to mention a terrific guy) send us his review on one of the latest cigars from La Aurora.

Without further ado? Take it away Slim!

Tonight I am gonna light up the 107 and put it through its paces. This is a gorgeous matte dark brown wrapper with small veins and oh so subtle tooth. The band is a work of art. I love the color pallet and the gold border just pops against the dark wrapper.
The prelight bouquet is pure sweet tobacco on both the wrapper and the foot. The first couple of pulls reward your pallet with a salty, savory, full body smoke that you can chew. I can taste salt on my lips from the wrapper and the retro hale is nice and smooth with a building pepper spice.
The first third is smooth, creamy, and spicy. There’s something there that I just cant put my finger on and it changes depending on how I retro hale. If I push the smoke out quickly the pepper is up front and I don’t get much else but if I just let the smoke meander its way out I can taste cedar and citrus. Into the second third and I cant say enough about the construction of this stick. A great draw, dark grey ash that’s holding on strong and a trouble free burn line. We can now add meat to the list of amazing flavors. Combine that with the salt and all I can think of is steak and baked potatoes. The meaty component was great if only short lived. In the final third meat is gone and the citrus, spice, and oak remain with the addition of leather.
This cigar never let me down and to truly appreciate the flavors and aroma you have to get your nose into the game. I only have one more of these left in the box and am going to have to remedy that post hast. Do yourself a favor a pick some of these up to experience what La Aurora can do for you.

Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback on this scrumptious new cigar from La Aurora.
Miami Cigar & Company, the exclusive distributor for La Aurora brands in the United States, announces the release of the La Aurora Serie 107 Anniversario to mark the company’s 107th year of operation in the Dominican Republic.
Miami Cigar president Nestor Miranda says, “We have represented La Aurora for over 20 years and feel this is one of the best cigars they have made so far. La Aurora vice president Guillermo Léon adds, “We realize that while our family has been making fine handcrafted cigars for more than a century, some cigar smokers still have not tried our products and others remember when we only made cigars in the mild range. La Aurora has been developing medium to full bodied cigars with full flavor and we want to let people know how we have changed. The Rediscover La Aurora is part of our outreach to those smokers.”
The 107, which uses a Sun Grown Ecuador wrapper over 6 year old fillers and binder from Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, will come in boxes of 21 with a suggested retail price between $6 to $8. There will be 3 sizes: Robusto (4.5×50); Toro (5.5×54); and a Belicoso (6.25 x 52). ~Cigar Industry

Artesanos de Tabaqueros

Richmond, VA—General Cigar is pleased to introduce Artesanos de Tabaqueros®, the second edition in the critically-acclaimed Artesanos series from La Gloria Cubana®.
Created to showcase the artistry of La Gloria Cubana “tabaqueros” (artisan cigar makers), Artesanos de Tabaqueros cigars are a stunning embodiment of the time-honored craft of cigar making. So exacting is the skill required to handcraft cigars of this complexity that Benji Menendez personally selected an elite group of just 18 master cigar makers, representing the cream of the crop from El Credito Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic.
According to Debo Mukherjee, vice president of marketing for General Cigar, parent company of Artesanos de Tabaqueros, “This exciting collection represents the brain trust that is Team La Gloria Cubana. They pooled their collective talents to showcase the best that General Cigar has to offer: aged and proprietary tobacco, passionate and talented cigar makers and an unwavering commitment to innovation. It is with pleasure that I commend Benji Menendez, Michael Giannini, Yuri Guillen and Rick Rodriguez on yet another exciting addition to our portfolio of brands.”
Meticulously crafted to combine two different wrappers and two distinct tastes in one eye-catching cigar, Artesanos de Tabaqueros is a world-class smoke that opens to a rich and intriguing spice and ultimately reveals a depth of flavor that can only be achieved through a precise balance of unique and rare tobaccos. Hand selected from General Cigar’s extensive library of Dominican and Honduran tobaccos, the cigars are dressed in both a supple Connecticut Shade and hearty Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper. The blend is made solely of proprietary tobaccos, each aged five years or more.
Presented with two different wood treatments to promote the unique tastes promised in each cigar, Artesanos de Tabaqueros cigars are protected in boxes of 25. The collection will debut in early April with three frontmarks, each named to according to its dimensions: 650 (6” x 50, SRP per cigar is $8.00), 652 Belicoso (6” x 52, SRP per cigar is $9.50) and 750 (7” x 50, SRP per cigar is $9.00).
“To truly experience this gem of a cigar is to smoke it and taste the masterful artisanship that comes to life when one wrapper ends and the other begins in balance and harmony,” noted Michael Giannini, director of marketing for La Gloria Cubana.

January News

One of the hottest new boutique brands, Illusione Cigars, are flying off the shelves here. Illusione Cigars are up into the #7 ranking in CA's Top 25 Cigars. The essence of this cigar approaches your palate with notes of black cherry, leather, earth and finishes with the Illusione signature aroma of sweet floral. Two of my personal favorites are the Mj 12, shown here, and the 888. Check them out!

Another tasty smoke we feature are the Padilla Miami cigars. Made by Ernesto Padillo these Miami beauties are getting lots of attention from seasoned and newcomers to cigars. Rated a whopping 94 this flavor packed cigar was described by Cigar Aficionado as: "First puffs of this gorgeous, well-made robusto come on strong and earthy, leading to cocoa and nutty flavors as the cigar progresses. Mellow, Scotch-like impressions linger on the palate. Complex and flavorful."
