"Sushi, The Cigars and The Blues" party!

This was our first "After Hours" event at Bonita Smoke Shop and we had such a great time! I couldn't have done it alone and have a few to say a sincere "Thank You" to.

It was an evening featuring all General Cigar products. Grace Cabezas, who is one outstanding sales representative, helped us in putting together this event. Your ideas and advice were instrumental (no pun intended but it still sounds good) in putting this fun evening of food, music and cigars was much appreciated Grace!

The air was scented with the tantalizing aromas of cigars such as Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, Macanudo, (including the Macanudo 1968 blend),Partagas and the new La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Tabaqueros Cigars

We had the honor of Poppa E and his Blues Band entertain us with a wide range of classic blues songs. The strain of his guitar and harmonica along with a bass player made a SW Florida sunset even more magical. To say his voice touched a part of us is putting it mildly. You could "feel" the emotion in the lyrics he sang. Thank you Poppa E. You helped make our evening extra special.

The sushi boats kept arriving and I had to laugh. It was as if the Seventh Fleet had docked. Everyone dug in! For some it was their first venture into the world of sushi and I applaud their courage. I remember the first time I tried it and could relate.

Chopsticks flashed, music was sung, wine was sipped and cigar were smoked!

All in all a wonderful evening. Many thanks to all who attended. Let's do it again soon!

PS. Come to think of it. The "Punch Cigar Guy" is due for a birthday....very soon! It may be time to celebrate that!

La Aurora 107 Cigars

We're thrilled to have a seasoned and knowledgeable (not to mention a terrific guy) send us his review on one of the latest cigars from La Aurora.

Without further ado? Take it away Slim!

Tonight I am gonna light up the 107 and put it through its paces. This is a gorgeous matte dark brown wrapper with small veins and oh so subtle tooth. The band is a work of art. I love the color pallet and the gold border just pops against the dark wrapper.
The prelight bouquet is pure sweet tobacco on both the wrapper and the foot. The first couple of pulls reward your pallet with a salty, savory, full body smoke that you can chew. I can taste salt on my lips from the wrapper and the retro hale is nice and smooth with a building pepper spice.
The first third is smooth, creamy, and spicy. There’s something there that I just cant put my finger on and it changes depending on how I retro hale. If I push the smoke out quickly the pepper is up front and I don’t get much else but if I just let the smoke meander its way out I can taste cedar and citrus. Into the second third and I cant say enough about the construction of this stick. A great draw, dark grey ash that’s holding on strong and a trouble free burn line. We can now add meat to the list of amazing flavors. Combine that with the salt and all I can think of is steak and baked potatoes. The meaty component was great if only short lived. In the final third meat is gone and the citrus, spice, and oak remain with the addition of leather.
This cigar never let me down and to truly appreciate the flavors and aroma you have to get your nose into the game. I only have one more of these left in the box and am going to have to remedy that post hast. Do yourself a favor a pick some of these up to experience what La Aurora can do for you.

Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback on this scrumptious new cigar from La Aurora.
Miami Cigar & Company, the exclusive distributor for La Aurora brands in the United States, announces the release of the La Aurora Serie 107 Anniversario to mark the company’s 107th year of operation in the Dominican Republic.
Miami Cigar president Nestor Miranda says, “We have represented La Aurora for over 20 years and feel this is one of the best cigars they have made so far. La Aurora vice president Guillermo Léon adds, “We realize that while our family has been making fine handcrafted cigars for more than a century, some cigar smokers still have not tried our products and others remember when we only made cigars in the mild range. La Aurora has been developing medium to full bodied cigars with full flavor and we want to let people know how we have changed. The Rediscover La Aurora is part of our outreach to those smokers.”
The 107, which uses a Sun Grown Ecuador wrapper over 6 year old fillers and binder from Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, will come in boxes of 21 with a suggested retail price between $6 to $8. There will be 3 sizes: Robusto (4.5×50); Toro (5.5×54); and a Belicoso (6.25 x 52). ~Cigar Industry

Artesanos de Tabaqueros

Richmond, VA—General Cigar is pleased to introduce Artesanos de Tabaqueros®, the second edition in the critically-acclaimed Artesanos series from La Gloria Cubana®.
Created to showcase the artistry of La Gloria Cubana “tabaqueros” (artisan cigar makers), Artesanos de Tabaqueros cigars are a stunning embodiment of the time-honored craft of cigar making. So exacting is the skill required to handcraft cigars of this complexity that Benji Menendez personally selected an elite group of just 18 master cigar makers, representing the cream of the crop from El Credito Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic.
According to Debo Mukherjee, vice president of marketing for General Cigar, parent company of Artesanos de Tabaqueros, “This exciting collection represents the brain trust that is Team La Gloria Cubana. They pooled their collective talents to showcase the best that General Cigar has to offer: aged and proprietary tobacco, passionate and talented cigar makers and an unwavering commitment to innovation. It is with pleasure that I commend Benji Menendez, Michael Giannini, Yuri Guillen and Rick Rodriguez on yet another exciting addition to our portfolio of brands.”
Meticulously crafted to combine two different wrappers and two distinct tastes in one eye-catching cigar, Artesanos de Tabaqueros is a world-class smoke that opens to a rich and intriguing spice and ultimately reveals a depth of flavor that can only be achieved through a precise balance of unique and rare tobaccos. Hand selected from General Cigar’s extensive library of Dominican and Honduran tobaccos, the cigars are dressed in both a supple Connecticut Shade and hearty Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper. The blend is made solely of proprietary tobaccos, each aged five years or more.
Presented with two different wood treatments to promote the unique tastes promised in each cigar, Artesanos de Tabaqueros cigars are protected in boxes of 25. The collection will debut in early April with three frontmarks, each named to according to its dimensions: 650 (6” x 50, SRP per cigar is $8.00), 652 Belicoso (6” x 52, SRP per cigar is $9.50) and 750 (7” x 50, SRP per cigar is $9.00).
“To truly experience this gem of a cigar is to smoke it and taste the masterful artisanship that comes to life when one wrapper ends and the other begins in balance and harmony,” noted Michael Giannini, director of marketing for La Gloria Cubana.
